Backing Indigenous Young People

After the heartbreak that was ‘The Voice Referendum’, Co-Ground is committed now, more than ever, to backing Indigenous young people.
To self empowerment and self determination.

This year, we are sponsoring 3 young Yolngu people from Ramingining, in East Arnhem Land to attend the Northern Territory Youth Parliament.

Due to their remote location, we are also covering the costs of their flights, accommodation and interpreters, so that they can speak in language (most young people in this region solely speak Yolngu Matha).

We are also proud to be supporting 2 young Aboriginal women from Tennant Creek to represent their community at this year's program at Parliament House, Northern Territory.

A Voice, after The Voice

The program is led by young people and directed by the incredible Tahlia Biggs and Kergen Angel. It offers young people the opportunity to speak directly to decision-makers on issues and solutions which affect them, at the highest legislative body in the Territory.

We know that in the Territory, only 55% of 18 to 24 year olds are enrolled to vote, well below the national average of 92%. This points to the systemic disadvantage that young people, particularly Aboriginal young people, face just by virtue of being born in the Territory.

We know the power of programs driven by, and for, young people. We are excited to support a program that provides the space to develop confidence, skills, leadership, a voice - and how to use it.
